It’s time to say goodbye to the old £1 coin

Friday, 13 October 2017

It’s just two days until the old round £1 coins cease to be legal tender – but we’ve been working hard to make sure all our machines are ready for the change.

As the primary coin used in Dransfields machines, the introduction of a new coin and the removal from circulation of the old one has presented challenges, but we’re committed to providing top quality service to our customers by making sure the changeover runs smoothly.

Over the summer, we prepared for the introduction of the new 12-sided £1 coin by upgrading coin acceptors in all the types of equipment Dransfields operates, from pool tables, quiz machines and kiddie rides to jukeboxes, cranes and vending machines – not to mention all those gaming machines!

Having replaced or reprogrammed all coin acceptors to accept the new £1 coin, we’re now busy updating all coin mechanisms to cease acceptance of the old coin, which goes out of circulation on October 15th.

With just a couple of days until the deadline, there are around 500 million of the old coins still in circulation around the country. So if your customers use them in machines, or ask you to accept them after the deadline, don’t worry, as high street banks and the Post Office will continue to accept the old coins even when they’re no longer legal tender, until further notice.
