Do you know which ice cream flavour was created in honour of 70s rock band The Grateful Dead?
That was one of the fiendish questions facing keen quizzers at the ‘Quiz in the North’, an event proudly sponsored by leading gaming and amusement equipment suppliers Dransfields.
The quiz was organised by Tony Gold, together with Mastermind champion - and reigning BBC Radio 4 Brain of Britain - Clive Dunning. It was hosted by the Malleable Social Club in Stockton-on-Tees.
Club members and quizzers from across the country got the chance to test their general knowledge skills against the brightest brains in Britain, including several members of the famous Eggheads TV quizzing team.
Among those getting quizzical were Kevin Ashman, Pat Gibson, Barry Simmons and ‘Tremendous Knowledge Dave’ Rainford.
Pat triumphed in the individual quiz, pipping his TV teammate Kevin to the post with a score of 132 out of 150. But Kevin had his revenge; first leading his side to victory in the team quiz, then pocketing the winner’s cheque awarded to the ‘Kings and Queens of the photo competition’, thanks to his team recognising an incredible 42 out of 50 celebrities.
Dransfields Managing Director Chris Haley presented trophies to the individual and team winners, commenting: “The breadth of knowledge of the quizzers was quite incredible.”
By the way, that ice cream flavour? Ben and Jerry’s ‘Cherry Garcia’.
